Maggie Lee for Good

Maggie Lee Henson was a beautiful and vibrant 12 year old who died from a traumatic brain injury she suffered when her church camp bus flipped
and landed on her on July 12, 2009, while on the way to youth camp.

Today would have been Maggie Lee’s 13th birthday and thousands
(over 17,800- isn't that AWESOME!)
have committed to performing acts of kindness in her honor and memory.

Check out the Maggie Lee for Good website or
go to the Maggie Lee....for Good! group on Facebook
to see all of the amazing things done in her memory and honor today!

I started my day by going to Sonic on my way to work-
as I do every single morning.

But instead of purchasing just my regular Rt. 44 Diet Coke,
today I also purchased a gift card that would pay for 25 addition Rt. 44 drinks.
I asked my favorite Sonic guy
(I had prayed he would be there on the way to work- not the cranky guy- and he was!!)
to use the card to pay for the next
25 people that came through the line ordering a drink.

I gave him little cards that I printed out with the
Maggie Lee logo as well as an explanation of the reason for their little treat.

I also baked a bunch of brownies last night,
packaged them with Maggie Lee for Good stickers,
and handed them out both at work
and sent some with Madison to school to give out.

I have a few other things I am doing in Maggie Lee's memory,
but they will have to remain a secret,
because I am doing them anonymously.

My heart has ached all day long thinking of the pain
that I can only imagine that Jinny and John are feeling today-
on Maggie Lee's 13th birthday.

But I know that they are also feeling such great joy hearing of the thousands
of kind things being done in Maggie Lee's honor and memory.

It's not too late- will you do something kind in Maggie Lee's memory?

Randomness on a Wed. Morning

1. I've taken cold/allergy medicine the past two nights and had some CRAZY dreams.

-Monday night I dreamed that I was giving tours of George Bush's house and I knew NOTHING and was so nervous b/c I was making up all sorts or random crap.

-Last night I dreamed that my car was stolen and inside was my iphone, my camera, my laptop, and all my makeup! Can you imagine the horror?

I'm kind of scared to take some medicine tonight. :(

2. I've decided that when I die, I do NOT want a funeral. I want all my friends and family to go to Sonic during happy hour, and have a Diet Coke in my memory. No flowers, no tears, no sadness. Wouldn't that be GREAT?

3. I've stumbled upon what I think is a FABULOUS way to get Madison to stop leaving clothes on her bathroom floor- which was something she used to do ALL the time. CONSTANTLY. I told her on Sat. night that every piece of clothing I found on the bathroom floor meant 1 day that I would take away her cell phone. She was not happy about this idea, but guess what? Since Sat. night- the floor has been SPOTLESS!

4. I am wearing socks today that have little tiny scrambled eggs, frying pans, toast, coffee cups, and oatmeal on them. It's crazy sock day.

5. Tomorrow is Maggie Lee for Good Day and we have a great list going of some things we are going to do. Madison's main idea- the one she came up with on her own- is my favorite. It involves her spending quite a lot of her own money and she wants to do it anonymously. Makes this mommy so happy and proud. Can't wait to hear about all the fabulous things people are going to do in Maggie Lee's memory!

The Hole

My sweet girl is a smart girl- she's in advanced classes and makes great grades.

But sometimes, she does things that make me wonder a little (alot) about her common sense.

Last night while she was at dance, I was on Facebook.

One of her dance friends, who I am also friends with, posted the following status:
MW is laughing sooo hard! Leave it to madison to get her finger stuck in a hole in the wall and me stand beside her and laugh at her while ms jessica is teachin!

I thought UH OH, surely she's not talking about my Madison, right?

Well then another of her friends from dance posts this status:
KB my poor friend got her finger stuck in the wall at pointe. Totally made my day :)

At that point, I knew it had to be my Madison.

So I sent her a text - below is our conversation:

Me: How in the world did you get your finger stuck in the wall goober?
Madison: He he he well......how did u know about that?
Me: Facebook. How DID you?
Madison: well there is a hole in the wall and i had never seen it b4 and we were just standing there and i .....well stuck my finger in the wall and it got stuck. :/
Me: dork
Madison: now it's all swollen cuz it took us like 10 minutes to get it out......but it gave everyone a good laugh
Me: i love you crazy girl

When she got home she told me the whole story and I said:
So the moral of the story today is..............

And she replied:
Never stick your finger in a hole in the wall.

Sometimes I sure do wonder about that girl.
(I think she gets it from her dad :)
But she sure does crack me up!

Confessions on a Wed. Morning

1.I was internally cranky all day long yesterday.
(Internal cranky means you think ugly things inside while smiling
and being polite on the outside so people don't see your crankiness)

2. I ate a piece of big old piece of cake while watching
the Biggest Loser on TV last night.
There is something seriously disturbed about that.

3. I secretly hoped that when my friend Debbie came to visit this past weekend
(she moved to Montana this past March)
that she would realize how much she missed Texas,
missed her friends, missed her home,
missed our church, missed ME that she would want to move back.
That's not very nice. :(

4. The candy from my training this past weekend that
I left in my office is almost totally gone.
And not because I threw it away or gave it away.
Sigh.

5. I am totally out of checks and it took me FOUR separate trips to our banks
website before I could figure out where the heck to click to order checks
r.i.d.i.c.u.l.o.u.s.

Confession is good for the soul...........so now it's your turn.

10 Things On My Desk Today

1. A Sonic drink- of course.

2. A Special K Protein Shake- they are pretty yummy and
a good way for me to get some much needed protein.

3. A microphone that clips on to my collar to use for some videos I am making.
I HATE listening to my voice when it is recorded. HATE it.

4. A present for my sweet little friend Lu that comes to visit me each morning.
Today's present is an Elmo book- but it needs to get put in the drawer
because she knows that where I put her little treats each morning.

5. Candy from my training this past weekend and it needs to go away- seriously.
I hear it calling my name and that is not good.

6. A wireless mouse to use with my laptop

7. Both my desktop computer and my laptop.
Using both today for a project- it's gonna be a busy day.

It's a fabulous- and VERY convicting book.

9. A cow mask.

10. A pair of really big panties.
REALLY big panties.
Because sometimes you need to be reminded to put on your big girl panties.

Monday Morning Question of the Day

Are you very persistent or do you give up fairly easily?
It's a well known fact that I go to Sonic every single morning before work.
I know the people who work there well and at that early hour it's usually one
of two young men that give me my drink and take my money.
One young man is very friendly and chatty and
we always have a nice little conversation that always ends with me saying
"Have a great day" and him replying "You too".
The other young man however is NOT friendly,
rarely says anything to me, and
although I say to him every single morning
"Have a great day" he NEVER replies.
EVER.
And for some reason it makes me crazy.
But instead of giving up and
deciding that maybe he's just not friendly,
I keep trying.
EVERY single day.
Because one day I truly hope he'll say "You too".
I'll probably starting cheering if he does-
and then he'll know for sure I'm a lunatic.
But I'll be a happy lunatic. :)

86,400

"If every morning your banker credited your account with $86,400
but every evening canceled whatever part of the amount you failed to invest,
what would you do?
Invest every cent - of course!
Well, you have such an account - it is called time.
Every day you are credited with 86,400 seconds.
At midnight, whatever you failed to invest is lost forever.
A balance is not carried over to the next day and
you are not allowed over-drafts.
Each day the bank called Time opens a new account with you.
Each night it burns the records of the day.
If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours."

Maggie Lee for Good

Back in the summer I blogged about my childhood friend, Jinny-
whose 12 year old daughter Maggie Lee was in a horrible bus accident on her way to church camp and sustained a traumatic brain injury.
Maggie Lee was a beautiful and vibrant young lady and
after being in ICU for several weeks she passed away on August 2, 2009.

October 29th would have been Maggie Lee's 13th birthday and in her honor and memory thousands of people have committed to doing an act of kindness on that date.

I am one of the over 13,000 people who have promised to do something special
in her memory on Oct. 29th.

If you would like to join me simply visit the website

and click on the Join button
or join the Maggie Lee for Good group on Facebook.

I'll be blogging soon about what I plan to do in Maggie Lee's honor,
will you please join me?

Monday Morning Question of the Day

The only magazine I have a subscription to is
and I absolutely LOVE it.

It has great articles, wonderful ideas for making life simpler,
great ideas for reusing and re purposing things,
awesome checklists, and some yummy recipes.

One of my favorite things in each issue is the very last page.
On the last page is a feature called "Reality Check".
It's always funny and I love waiting until I've read the whole issue before reading it.

October's Reality Check was one of my favorite of all times.
It was a list of new fees effective this month.
At the top of the page it said:
Attention, friends, family members, coworkers, and complete strangers.
Starting October 1, 2009, I will be charging the following fees
for inconsiderate and/or obnoxious behavior.
Please pay in full when the fee is incurred.

Below that were all sorts of things that people do that drive us all crazy.

Things like:
Talking on a cell phone in an elevator- $7.00
Not ordering dessert, then eating half of mine- $10.50
Finishing the toilet paper roll and not replacing it- $16.00

I thought that their ideas were great and immediately thought of a few fines
that I would like add to the list.

Things like:
Having and using a glass to drink out of, leaving it sitting somewhere,
and going to get another one repeatedly- $10.50
(Tony and Madison would be BROKE and I would be RICH!)

Opening a cabinet door and leaving it open- $6.75

Asking someone whose job it is to do something,
to do that something and having them act all put out about it- $8.25

Driving out the entrance or in the exit of a well marked driveway- $5.50

Replying to ALL on an email to a large group- $7.50

What about you?
What fines would you add if you could?

Monday Morning Question of the Day

I'm in my 39th year and about 6 months away from my 40th birthday.
(How did that happen? Seriously, wasn't I just 30 only yesterday?)

I've been working on a list of

40 Things to Do Before I Turn 40

The list includes a few things I've always wanted to do but never have
as well as a few things I've been putting off for way too long.

But I need your help.
I'm not even close to 40 things and
want you to tell me one thing (or more) that you think I should add to the list.

It has to be realistic
(saying that I should take us all on a trip to Ireland (which I would love to do)
and it has to be legal, but other than that, the sky is the limit.

So, what should I add to my list?

It's Tough

Being a woman is tough sometimes.

Super stinkin' tough.

We worry about being enough.
About living up to the expectations of those around us
and the ones we set for ourselves.
We worry about what people think about what we do,
about what we wear,
about what we say,
about how we look,
about how much we weigh,
about how we mother,
about how we keep our house,
about how we live our lives,
about how we live out our faith.
We worry about everything.

We worry that in comparison we will fall short.
We worry that people will not like us if they know the "real" us.

Holley over at (In)Courage wrote a fabulous post
about these struggles we women face.

Go read what she had to say here, I promise you will be blessed!
