DIY Personalized Valentine Treats

ASPTL

I love every holiday and any reason to make a treat for friends and family. When she was little I spent hours and hours working on treats for Madison to give to her friends for Valentine's Day.

But, as she has gotten older it's become more of a challenge to come up with new, unique fun treats for her to give to her friends at school.

Here is our idea from last year and it was super easy, fun, inexpensive, and something that you could adapt for any holiday or occasion!

Here is what we did..........

Sometime last year while shopping I stumbled across some clear alphabet stickers. They were on clearance for a great price and so I bought several packages and tucked them away in my craft closet thinking that someday soon I'd find a use for them.
(I do this all the time which is why I have a closet full of random stuff!)

As I started thinking of what to do for Madison's Valentine's Day treats- I remembered those cute little stickers.
A quick trip to the store for some cute Valentine's Day paper (thank you Target Dollar Spot), some Valentine ribbon (Target Dollar Spot again), and some Hershey's nugget candy bars and we were ready to work.

I simply measured and cut the paper to fit around the little bars- to cover up the writing- and we taped them on with a small piece of tape on the back of each bar.
Madison spelled out each of her friends names using the alphabet letters by placing one letter on each candy bar.
(getting creative when we ran out of Y's and E's)

We then rubber cemented some additional scrapbook paper onto
the back of some blank index cards cut in half lengthwise.
We rubber cemented each little candy bar to the white side of the card and slid each one into a clear plastic bag (from Hobby Lobby in the bag section)
and tied it with a little Valentine's ribbon.

Supplies:
-Hershey Nugget candy bars
-Valentine scrap book paper
-Alphabet stamps
-Rubber cement
-Blank index cards or cardstock
-Scissors
-Clear bags from Hobby Lobby
-Valentine ribbon
-Tape

Cute, personalized little sweet treats that were fun and easy to make!

Monday Morning Question of the Day

I saw a movie this weekend (Leap Year which was very cute!) where someone
asked a question that really made me think.

So I'm making that the question of the day today.

If your house were on fire and you only
had 60 seconds to get something to take with you,
what would you take?
(Let's assume all people and pets are safe- so you don't have to get them)

DIY Bow Tutorial

DIY Day @ ASPTL

I am a girl that loves bows- in all shapes and sizes.
And so when I saw a way to make bows using a page
from a magazine I just had to try it.
And when I did and I found out how SUPER simple and fast it was-
I just had to share with you.

Here's what you'll need
(all of which you probably have in your house right this minute):

-a page from a magazine, a piece of scrapbook paper, a piece of wrapping paper or any other kind of paper you might have

-a pair of scissors (or a paper cutter)

-tape (regular Scotch tape or double sided  tape)

-a stapler (I used this type of stapler and it worked fabulously because I could open and close it without squishing the paper)

-a ruler

Step 1:
Use the ruler to mark the back of the page at 3/4 inch intervals and cut out 9 strips.
Set three strips aside as these will remain full-sized. Take three strips and cut 1 inch off of each strip and throw scraps away. Take two strips and cut 2 inches off of each and throw scraps away. Cut a three inch piece from the remaining strip to use for the center of the bow. When you finish cutting your strips will look like this:

Step 2:
Take each of the longer 8 strips and twist each one to form a loop at each end. Make sure that the side of the page that you want to show up is on the outside, not the inside. Staple each piece in the center after making the loops. Take the last piece- the smallest piece- and make it into a circle and tape it closed.

Step 3:
Lay the longer of the 3 strips over each other, spacing them apart. Staple them together in the center. Add the next three in the same manner, and secure with another staple. Repeat with the last two strips and staple one final time. Use a piece of tape rolled up (or use double sided tape) to secure the round loop in the center of the bow.

A few hints:
  • scrapbook paper makes a fluffier bow which I love
  • you can make a larger or smaller bow- just extend or shorten the length of your strips
  • using a stapler that opens and closes easily is helpful because it keeps you from crushing the loops

These are so easy peasy and so inexpensive and quick! I don't think I'll ever buy another bow again. Trust me, if you make one, you'll want to make another and another and another and another...

Monday Morning Question of the Day- Reverse Edition

This Monday morning,
instead of me asking you a question,
let's turn the tables.

Today, you ask me a question, and I'll answer it.

So.....what's your question?

Flashback Friday

As I look back through Madison's baby pictures I have to laugh.
Because in almost every single one- she's wearing a bow- like this one.
Because you know, even in the swimming pool you want to look cute! :)

I Wish I May, I Wish I Might.......

For some reason this week has kicked my butt.
Seriously.
It's not even over and I am exhausted.
It's been super crazy busy and I am just pooped.
Maybe I'm just getting old?

So instead of spending time working on the
118 things on my list that must be done by Friday afternoon,
I spent a little time on one of my favorite time wasting sites-

And of course, as always, I found millions of things I'd love to have.

Things like..........

which would all look cute on my guest bed

Okay, enough wishing for now.
Back to work.............

Week 2- Hiding God's Word in Your Heart

I'm so excited so many of you are joining me
in trying to memorize 52 verses in 52 weeks this year!

I had one more idea I started doing this week-
I've added the week's verse to my computer desktop.
I spend LOTS of time on my computer so
I figured this was another place to put it where I would see it often.

If you have any ideas that are helping you to
memorize your scripture each week,
please share them with us in the comments.

Here's the verse for this next week:

Monday Morning Question of the Day

I absolutely LOVE cereal.
Seriously love it.
I usually only eat it dry as I'm not a big fan of milk.
My faves are Apple Jacks, Fruity Pebbles, and Cheerios.

What's your favorite kind of cereal?

Shoot 360

My sweetest friend Dory and I both got new cameras this past year.

We love them and are both constantly taking pictures.

We have lots to learn and know that the best way
to do so is to practice, practice, practice.

So, to help make sure we practice alot, we've started a new blog

It's the two of us shooting images on one topic
each day for the rest of the year -
360 photos in all.

We are taking turns picking the topics and
it'll be so fun to see how we interpret them.

We'd love for you to join us....
so when you get a chance come by and visit us there!

Is it Cute?

Madison needed a flash drive for one of her classes.
I told her the other afternoon that I had one she could have.
Her only question to me was "Is it cute?".

 Is it cute?
I didn't know cute really mattered in terms of a flash drive.
Sadly, it was not cute- it was plain and black.

So this morning I decided to look for a CUTE flash drive-
thinking that there probably weren't many- and boy was I wrong.

There are tons of super cute ones.

Here are some of my favorites:

Week 1- Hiding God's Word in Your Heart

I'm so glad so many of you want to join me on this journey!
It'll be fun for us to do this together!

Scripture Memory Ideas

~Buy a three ring index card sized little notebook. Each week write the week's verse in the notebook and carry it around in your purse, bag, or car. For some reason the fact that it's a 3 ringed notebook seems to make it easier to keep up with and it's definitely sturdier. I got this cute little one at Walmart and I love it.

~Print out a copy of the weeks verse and place it in a little picture frame that sits on your desk or somewhere that you will see often. I found this tiny frame at the dollar store and have one on each of my desks.

~Write the weeks verse on a chalkboard in your house where everyone in your family can see it. I got this super cute old chalkboard for Christmas and as soon as I can beg nag convince sweet talk Tony to hang it, it's going to be on the wall in our living room. Each week I'll write the new verse on it. By doing this I'm hoping that maybe the rest of my family will also learn a few new Bible verses this year.

~Use a dry erase marker to write the verse on your bathroom mirror. If you think about all the time you spend in your bathroom getting ready, it's a perfect place to do a little memorizing.

~Write the verse on a sticky note and put it on the dash of your car.  During stop lights, traffics, and time spent waiting to drop off or pick up your children- it's a great place to review the verse of the week.

If you have any other ideas, please leave a comment and share!
