What I REALLY Want for my 40th Birthday

Weeks before your birthday people always ask what you want.

I never have an answer.

I'm truly blessed and have way more than I could ever possibly need.

Since this year is one of those decade change birthdays for me,
I've been telling people that I am not having a birthday this year.

But after reading the blog a sweet friend sent
me a link to the other day I decided
I DID want to celebrate my birthday this year and
I immediately knew
EXACTLY
what I wanted for my birthday!

But I need YOUR help to get it.

Will you help me?

My birthday wish is to complete one Random Act of Kindness for every year of my life so far (that's 40), as well as asking family, friends, Facebook friends, and fellow Twitter-ers to each perform one Random Act of Kindness and to let me know about it throughout the day via email or text message on my birthday- next Monday, March 29th.
(And if you could take a picture of it? Like icing on the cake!)

If I could get 40 (or 80?) friends to do a Random Act of Kindness that day?

It would be AMAZING.
Seriously.

I honestly can not think of anything I'd like better
as a gift than for other people to be blessed
and it truly would make my day so special if you'd join me.

Getting texts and emails all day of the great things people are doing for others would be like getting little presents all day long.

The fact that my sweetest friend Dory will be here with me
to help me accomplish my 40 Random Acts of Kindness?
Seriously- the GREATEST thing EVER!!!
(We are going to have SO much fun!!!)

So....will you join me?

Please?

Pretty please?

Pretty please with a Sonic drink on top?

Monday Morning Question of the Day

I happened to catch Dr. Phil one day this week and he shared a statistic that shocked me.
He said that in a getting to know you conversation,
most people lie an average of three times in the first ten minutes.

At first I was shocked and thought
"I definitely don't do that".

But the more I thought about it, the more I thought
"Welll....maybe I do".

So my question today is, what is the most common lie you tell?

For me, hands down it's what I say when people say "How are you?"
My response, almost 100% of the time is "I'm GREAT!"
(and of course NO ONE is always great!)

So what about you?

Flashback Friday

These are two pics from the first day of school.
Judging from the clothes and our sizes,
I'm guessing this was in 1977-
so I was in 2nd grade and my sister was in 5th grade.

The first picture was taken on the sidewalk
 in front of our house.
I'm pretty sure my mom made our dresses
(so snazzy!)
and that my lunch kit was a Holly Hobby.
(I loved Holly Hobby- I even had a Holly Hobby bedspread!)

The second pic was taken in front of our friends Gina and Kelly's house.

That is our snazzy green station wagon in the background.
I have so many memories of riding in the back of that station wagon!

Literally

Last week I went from class to class at one of my elementary schools
and took class pictures for the yearbook.

It was so fun to get to see all the kids and they absolutely cracked me up-
 especially the little kindergarteners.

I love that even though they don't know me-
they were thrilled to see me and gave me lots of hugs.

It took quite awhile to get them all situated into height order.
They all wanted to stand next to each other and see who was taller.
There was lots of moving around, being silly, and laughing.

Once we finally accomplished getting them in height order,
we then worked to put them into three rows-
one standing, one kneeling, and one sitting.

It took forever but eventually we succeeded.

Once everyone was in place I said to them the same thing
I said to every group before I took their picture which began with........

"Now stand up straight and tall......"

Of course all the other groups knew what I meant-
that if you were standing, stand up straight and tall,
if you were sitting or kneeling, then sit or kneel up straight and tall.

But you know what those cute little kindergarten kiddos did don't you?

They took what I said literally.

And they stood up,
 every single one.

Flashback Friday

This is a picture from my parents (my dad adopted my sister and I a few years later)
wedding in October 1973 and is one of my all time favorites.

Here are just a few of my favorite things about it........
  • My dad's sideburns. Snazzy!
  • My mom's expression. I think she was tired of taking pictures, don't you?
  • The random boy on the left side. No idea who he was.
  • My sister poking the random boy on the left side. She looks sneaky doesn't she? :)
  • Me sitting in the middle of my mom and dad. This was exactly where I always wanted to be- right in the middle of the two of them. And don't I look just happy as a clam?
  • The cute dresses my sister and I were wearing. I still have that dress and my mom's wedding dress in my closet. So fun!

DIY Paper Posies

DIY Day @ ASPTL

I was inspired by this post of Stephie's on paper flowers and knew that I had to make some myself.

I quickly searched the internet for a pattern, ended up using this one
(but there are tons out there so use any that you like)
and in less than 5 minutes, had made two!

They require only 5 simple things that you probably already have in your house and are super easy to make!

Here is all you need:

  • 1 sheet scrapbook paper
  • a flower pattern
  • scissors
  • a glue gun
  • buttons

Step 1- Trace and cut out two of each type of paper flower.

Step 2- Make a small fold in the center of each flower in order to make them have a more 3D effect. Turn the flower a quarter of a turn and make another fold.

Step 3- Pick out a large button to match each paper.

Step 4- Put a dot of hot glue in the center of one flower then press the second on top- shifting it just enough so that the petals are not directly on top of each other.

Step 5- Gently pull on the top layer of petals to separate them from
the bottom layer and give them a little volume.

The ideas for these cuties are endless!
I made a few to go on my shutter fireplace screen
 along with some old pics.
I also made a few to go on my inspiration board above my craft table
and I plan to use them for a baby shower I'm helping with soon.
What a cute, inexpensive, and easy decoration!
