What do you call this?
I call it a spatula.

I did not realize until yesterday that I call them the exact
same thing but they are totally different items.

Do you call them the same thing?

Had you ever realized that before?

  5. Funny story: When in-laws were expecting 1st baby, she was put on bedrest. My FIL was trying to help out with cooking (but believe me... he isn't a cook), he yelled at my MIL from the kitchen asking what a "spah-tue-la" was. My MIL had no idea what he was talking about, so asked him to bring her the cookbook. "That doesn't say "spah-tue-la," it's a SPATULA!!" Spatula= rubber scraper. Other thing is a pancake flipper. =D

  7. I just realised I call them both "spatula" too! I went to write it in a story I'm working on and I mean the flipper spatula and I wrote spatula and then thought, hang on, that's the scraper thing, I wonder what the flipper thing is really called. And, a little Google brings up your site, and the fact that while it's sometimes called a "flipper" it's generally called a "spatula".

    According to Wiktionary
Spatula: A kitchen utensil consisting of a flat surface attached to a long handle, used for turning, lifting, or stirring food.

So, I guess we do call them both the same thing. :-)
