Worry: Matthew 6:34

Worry is something I have ALWAYS struggled with (pretty sure I inherited that trait from my sweet mama) and as I start to worry about all the million things that could or might happen (usually in the middle of the night), I try to stop myself and repeat this quote and then Matthew 6:34 which says.....
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (NIV)

I absolutely love this verse in the Message which says...
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. (The Message)

The word worry actually comes from an old German word that means "to choke" or "to strangle." And that is exactly what worry does- it chokes you spiritually. It creates an emotional and mental stranglehold on your life. It doesn't EVER make anything better. In fact, it makes things worse. I love that in this verse He points out that worry—any manner of pace-the-floor, can’t-sleep-at-night fretting—is not helpful because it changes NOTHING. This verse is a beautiful reminder that worry isn’t necessary for a child of God. Our Father knows precisely what we need, when we need it. He is never early, never right, always right on time. The same God who paints the flowers of the field and tends the birds of the air holds every part of our lives in his nail-pierced hands. The same God who loved us so much that He went through the hell of Calvary for us, loves us too much to leave your life to chance.

My prayer today is that we are able to rest in the promise and that as we start to worry we are reminded there is no need- HE is in control and loves us so!
